Escondido, CA.—June 25, 2007—enXco (an EDF EN Company) and Xcel Energy have signed an agreement in which enXco will develop and build a 100-MW wind farm, near Austin, Minnesota, located in Mower County. Known as the Grand Meadow Wind Farm, this will be the first wind project in Minnesota owned by Xcel Energy. This project is expected to be operational by the end of 2008.
enXco has filed a separate site permit for the wind farm that is capable of supporting up to 200-MW of wind generation. The first phase of this project is expected to consist of 67, GE 1.5 MW wind turbines which will be erected over a 20 square mile area. The additional 99.5 MW capacity could be used to meet Minnesota's growing energy needs.
According to Dave Sparby, Xcel Energy's acting president and CEO of Northern States Power Co.-Minnesota, an Xcel Energy company, "Developing this renewable energy resource will help Xcel Energy further our commitment to preserve and protect the environment while meeting our customers' growing electrical needs."
