EDF Renewable Energy announced the acquisition of Roosevelt Wind Project, LLC from Infinity Wind Power, in January 2014. The project is comprised of two sites, the 250 MW Roosevelt Wind Project, and the 50 MW Milo Wind Project, and is expected to achieve commercial operation in December 2015.
The project encompasses approximately 62,000 acres of grazing farmland within Roosevelt County, New Mexico, roughly 18 miles southwest of Portales. Southwestern Public Service Company (SPS), a subsidiary of Xcel Energy, will purchase the electricity generated by the 250 MW first phase of the project, pursuant to a 20-year, fixed-price power purchase agreement.
In early April 2014, pre-construction activities are underway, including project land surveying and continued environmental and wildlife studies, which will continue through the spring and summer.
The Roosevelt and Milo Development team has reached out to the project land owners via phone and mail, and non-participating neighboring property owners have also been contacted as a courtesy to inform them of the current activities.
For more information please do not hesitate to contact the Development team with any questions.
Year End 2014 UPDATE:
Construction is scheduled to commence January, 5th, 2015. During January, there will be light activity including the storing of construction equipment and vehicles to prepare for dirt mobilization in February.
All landowners will be receiving a Notice of Construction letter with more detailed information before the year end. Members of the Land team will be in contact with each individual landowner in the coming weeks to further address any questions.
The EDF Renewable Energy team wishes you all a fantastic Christmas and holiday season!
July 2014 UPDATE:
Thank you property owners and tenant farmers for your cooperation in providing access to your properties during the recent surveys and studies that took place in the project area. We are pleased to say that all the survey work went without incident, and feedback from the property owners has been all positive. Now that the surveys have been completed, a final design of the project can begin to be worked on, with a final layout expected in late September early October.
Turbines have been ordered! On July 3rd, EDF Renewable Energy announced the firm order with Vestas for 450 MW of wind turbine generators, for projects in New Mexico and Kansas. The order is part of the Master Supply Agreement (MSA) announced in September 2013. A press release with further details can be found at this link.
