The Enterprise Solar Project is proposed of up to 10 megawatts (MW) of solar generated capacity to be developed, constructed and operated in the Town of Vulcan.
Located on approximately 60 acres of land owned by the Town, the project represents an opportunity to utilize a vacant lot while preserving future town expansion.
Should the Project move forward, it will be first solar facility installed in municipal property in Alberta and will consist of more than 35,000 solar panels.
The site will be located on the west side of Range Road 244, south of Elizabeth Street. The lot, zoned for residential expansion, will be reclaimed for home construction when the solar site is decommissioned.
In addition to working with the Town of Vulcan, EDF Renewables will seek necessary approvals for the Project from the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC), the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO), and Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP).
WHY SOLAR, WHY NOW?
The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) launched the Renewable Electricity Program (REP) in March 2017 to support the province of Alberta changing the mix of power generation to include a larger portion of renewable energy – including wind and solar. The Enterprise Solar Project intends to participate in the first round of the REP competition series, which includes the procurement of up to 400 MW of renewable electricity for projects that will target commissioning by December 31, 2019.
