With 2026 marking his 30th year working in energy operations, Jason Thomas cares as much about technology as he does the people who make it run. His journey with the company began as a shift supervisor at Heartland biogas, then he moved up to plant manager and over to asset management. Now as Regional Senior Director of Asset Optimization, Jason guides the operational teams at wind and solar sites across five key states in the South.
How did you come to work at EDF power solutions?
I had been in energy operations since 1996 and was interested in sustainable energy. I found an opportunity to lead a shift at the Heartland Biogas site in 2014, converting manure and waste organics into renewable natural gas.
Describe your current role.
I am responsible for the commercial and operational management of our owned wind and solar sites in Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and New Mexico.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
My job is the perfect blend of technology and people. We continually invest in industry-leading technology and are at the forefront of integrating renewable energy into our company’s daily activities. I am also amazed by the quality of the team. I’ve never known a more capable, passionate, and supportive team.
What is one lesson you’ve learned during your time here that you’d like to share with others?
Adversity builds character, plants a firm foundation for genuine teamwork, and is easier to overcome when you do the right thing for the right reasons.
What do you enjoy most about the company culture?
All businesses deal with difficulty, but our company is united in purpose, and we work together to solve problems. I never feel alone when things get tough, and I know I can count on my colleagues to find and implement creative solutions.
What personal achievement are you most proud of?
Graduating from the US Navy Nuclear Power program and qualification to operate submarines is one of my proudest moments. This set me on an exciting career in energy operations and management.
What is your favorite energy innovation?
I am fascinated by energy storage as I believe effective storage will allow sustainable energy to reliably power the world. When built to scale, storage will convert intermittent resources like wind and solar into dispatchable on-demand clean energy, eliminating our dependence on traditional base load power sources.

Favorite hobby:
I enjoy being outdoors with my wife and our dogs. We enjoy fishing, hiking, and exploring Colorado’s beautiful mountains.
Dream vacation:
I dream of going on a remote fly-fishing float trip on a river in Alaska with my wife. Catching grayling, Dolly Vardens, and rainbow trout downstream of thousands of spawning silver salmon in the pristine wilderness of Alaska fills my soul with joy and strength.
