From auto mechanic to Site Operations Manager, Simon Lapointe embodies resilience, growth, and leadership. Based at Rivière-du-Moulin Wind in Quebec, Canada, Simon’s career journey reflects his passion for renewable energy and his commitment to fostering teamwork and innovation. Since joining the company in 2019, Simon has steadily advanced his career, taking on new challenges and inspiring those around him.

I worked for 10 years as an auto mechanic, but following a union strike, I decided to change careers. That’s how I started working as a site technician in Rivière-du-Moulin for the manufacturer Senvion. When EDF took over the service contract, it was clear to me that I wanted to continue in this field at this site. I started as a technician, and in 2020, I was promoted to site supervisor. In 2024, I took on the role of site manager.
Describe your current role.
In addition to planning operations and maintenance, my role involves preparing and monitoring budgets, ensuring the site’s performance, enforcing company processes and policies, and promoting a culture of health, safety, and environmental compliance. But most importantly, I focus on developing leadership within my team.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
When I see my team working together as a cohesive unit and moving forward toward the same goal: to be as productive as possible while maintaining a positive attitude and a safe work environment.
What is one lesson you’ve learned during your time here that you’d like to share with others?
No matter what difficulties we face, what setbacks we encounter, or what challenges we must overcome, we are not alone. By working as a team and bringing out the best in each other, we can push the boundaries beyond what is imaginable.
What do you enjoy most about the company culture?
What I love about EDF is its resilience in the face of constant market changes and its ability to grow despite these challenges. It trusts its people by empowering them to bring out the best in themselves.
What personal achievement are you most proud of?
One of the biggest decisions I’ve ever had to make was to leave a job where I was comfortable both professionally and financially, but where I was no longer happy and which no longer aligned with my values. It was difficult, but I’m proud of it, and very happy with the outcome today.
What is your favorite energy innovation?
It’s hard for me to pick just one energy innovation; I believe diversity is the key. No single technology is perfect, but using a variety of them makes the whole system nearly perfect.

Favorite weekend activity:
Going to the mountains—snowboarding in the winter or riding my dirt bike or hiking with our dogs in the summer.
Dream vacation:
Traveling by van through wilderness areas, whether it’s a dirt bike ride through the mountains and a swim in a lake in the summer, or snowboarding in the Rockies and soaking in hot springs in the winter.
Favorite movie:
For me, the movie Fargo is a masterpiece, with its brilliant contrast between the story’s absurdity and the unshakable demeanor of a pregnant police officer investigating the chaos.
Favorite hobby:
Playing guitar while sipping a cup of coffee in the morning.
